How the retainer works

A support retainer is a pre-paid balance you keep on file. When you need hands-on help — a desktop fix, a planned project, or an after-hours emergency — the time is drawn down against your balance at the rate for that tier. Because the work is pre-paid, your retainer balance is always your spending cap: we never bill you in arrears or for a surprise you didn’t approve.

Is a retainer required to work with ArcLight?
No — a retainer isn’t required to own ArcLight products. But all hands-on support draws from a pre-paid retainer on file, so we recommend keeping a balance ready before an issue comes up rather than after.
How is my time billed?
By the minute, at the rate for the tier of work: $2/min for desktop & help-desk support, $3.25/min for onsite, project & engineering labor, and $4/min for 24/7 emergency support (one-hour minimum per emergency incident). Every minute is drawn down from your prepaid balance.
Will I ever get a surprise bill?
No. Because the work is pre-paid, your retainer balance is your spending cap — we never bill in arrears or for work you didn’t approve. When your balance runs low, a top-up invoice is sent automatically so support is never interrupted.
How much retainer should I keep on file?
We recommend at least $250 per PC so an issue is never delayed waiting on a balance. You can buy as many $250 blocks as you need with the stepper above, and top up any time.
Can I use the retainer for a one-time project or emergency only?
Absolutely. There’s no monthly minimum and no contract. Buy a block for a single migration, a server build, or a single after-hours emergency — you only spend against time actually used.
